We Ate the Plums.
We Never Left.

The story of The Hook Experiences — and why La Paz is the most extraordinary place on earth.

Our Story
"They say that whoever eats the plums of El Mogote stays in La Paz forever — or if they leave, they always come back. The plums are a powerful magnet. There is no escaping them."
— Legend of Las Ciruelas del Mogote · La Paz, Baja California Sur

Evan

Founder · The Hook Experiences

Evan spent most of his life in the mountains — snowboarding and fly fishing — chasing the next adventure at altitude. In 2014 he found La Paz and the Sea of Cortez, and felt the pull of the ocean for the first time. Something shifted that didn't shift back.

He launched The Hook in March 2020. The world was shutting down. He was just getting started. Six years on the La Paz Malecón, and the sea still calls louder every morning than the mountains ever did. He ate the plums of El Mogote and never looked back. All roosterfish are catch and release.

Memo grew up in Mérida, Yucatán with a deep passion for nature, adventure, and the natural world from an early age. When he first visited La Paz he immediately recognized something extraordinary — a sea unlike anything he had ever encountered. He stayed. Together with Evan he built The Hook around a shared conviction that great guides are people who genuinely love what they protect.

The Hook Bar &
Mercado Turistico

The Hook is more than a tour company. We are a destination on the La Paz Malecón — a boutique shop, tour booking desk, bar, and artisan market all under one roof at the heart of Paseo Alvaro Obregon.

Walk in off the Malecón, book your whale shark tour, browse local merch, grab a drink, and meet the team that will take you out on the water. And say hello to Layla — she's in the shop most days. The mercado patio behind the shop is home to local artisans, jewelers, and vendors — a true La Paz experience.
